All of these recipes can be prepared ahead of time so that you’ve very little to do in the morning and we’ve suggestions about healthy additions such as fruit, seeds and simple-to-make fruit compotes. Why eat breakfast?
It’s no secret that breakfast is good for. It’s the first meal of the day and probably the first thing you’ve eaten since the previous evening. Your body needs sustenance in the morning. Breakfast is the way to replace the energy used up overnight in repairing and renewing. It helps you to concentrate, helps memory and boosts your energy levels. To get yourself going in the morning and firing on all cylinders, what better thing can you do for your health and well-being than eat a healthy and sustaining breakfast? That could be anything though, couldn’t it? I mean it’s pretty easy to reach for shop-bought cereal or just grab a slice of toast and get on with things. But hang on a minute, wouldn’t you like your breakfast to make some nutritional contribution to your day?

Why are oats good for breakfast?
Oats are a wholegrain cereal. As such they’re a good source of soluble fibre, high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and it’s believed can help protect against heart disease. Oats may also help to regulate blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol when included as part of your food intake. That’s quite an impressive list so how can you benefit from that in your own daily diet… well breakfast is an ideal time. Oats are pretty versatile, they can be eaten raw, as in overnight oats, or mueslis or cooked as in porridge or granola. It creates so many delicious and creamy dishes. Plus, oats do not have an overwhelming flavour of their own so they are easy to combine with other favourite spices, fruits and nut butters.
Healthy Oat-based Muesli and Granola Recipes
Here are a few of our favourite muesli and granola recipes. Granola is particularly versatile as it can also be used as a finishing touch on top of a simple bowl of fruit and yoghurt-based dessert. Grabbed by the handful it makes a healthy and sustaining snack… who’s judging?
If you prefer granola with its crunchy nuggets of oats and nuts then you might prefer this recipe. It’s super easy to make and quite delicious. Remember that you’re in complete control of how much sweetness is added to the recipe and of the combination of dried fruit, nuts and seeds that you use. It’s an easy recipe to adjust to suit your family’s individual needs.
This Peanut Butter Granola recipe which includes dried bananas is another lovely combination of oats and dried fruits with a little peanut butter for a wonderful flavour. Peanut butter and bananas are a classic pairing, aren’t they?
Granola and muesli can be stored in a suitable container for a quick solution to what’s for breakfast, overnight oats require a little planning. But it is really easy to mix up a batch, portion it out, and store in the fridge until needed. Overnight Oats are creamy and delicious and really versatile. If you’re not sure that you’d like a cold breakfast straight from the fridge, then note that some recipes may be warmed slightly. Not too much though, otherwise, it’ll become porridge. Healthy Overnight Oats
Essentially, in overnight oats recipes, oats are mixed with other ingredients in a liquid. The liquid is usually a type of milk or yoghurt. They are then left to soak overnight in the fridge or for at least a couple of hours. The oats become gorgeously creamy. These are then usually mixed with spices, sometimes sweeteners and fruit, nuts and seeds. Definitely, a breakfast that’s worth getting up for.
There are so many flavour combinations to satisfy all kinds of tastes. Being able to prepare them in batches too, means that with just a little effort you can have breakfast prepared ahead for the working week. So, you won’t go off track about what to eat for breakfast, just grab and go or treat yourself to a more leisurely meal.

Remember that these recipes can all be made gluten-free provided that you use oats that are processed in mills that are certified gluten-free. (It will say this on the packaging.)
