This has to be one of the best flatbread recipes that I’ve ever tried. I love it because it’s quick to make, it’s unfussy and it goes really well with lots of different dishes.
These simple yeast free flatbreads make the perfect scoop for dips such as hummus and Indian curries with delicious sauces. They are quite soft so they make pretty delicious wraps, which makes them a great accompaniment to Mexican dishes. I make these yogurt flatbreads to accompany soup too.
As this quick flatbread recipe requires no yeast, it doesn’t need to prove or double in size… you can just mix and cook. I find that really useful and a great time saver. You can have delicious flatbreads ready in as little as 15 minutes.
Ingredients in Greek Yogurt Flatbreads
To create a perfect batch of Greek yogurt flatbreads, follow this simple recipe. (The precise ingredients and exact amounts are listed in the recipe below.)
- flour – use self-raising flour for a little bit of lightness.
- salt – a very small amount for flavour
- yogurt – Greek yogurt gives a really lovely flavour. I’ve also used this recipe successfully with soya and oat ‘natural’ yogurts.
- olive oil – not really an ingredient in the dough but it is used when rolling out the dough.
How to Make Flatbreads
This is such an easy recipe for flatbread and the end result is a soft, pliable flatbread that you wrap around your favourite kebab, burger
Gather up the ingredients (the oil is for rolling out, not for adding to the mix) and add them to a suitable bowl. Then take a fork and mix everything together. Use your hands and bring the mixture together into a ball. It makes a soft pliable dough.
Divide the dough into 4 pieces, which will give you 4 good-sized flatbreads. If you want smaller ones, then maybe divide this amount into 6.
This may seem odd but add about a tablespoon of olive oil to the countertop. Take each piece of dough and then use a rolling pin or the heel of your hand to push the dough into circles. You may need to dust your hands with a little flour and the rolling pin to prevent it from sticking. Having the oil on the countertop means that the dough will cook beautifully and acquire attractive brown spots… a really pretty pattern to have on the bread.
The dough needs to be about 2mm to 3mm thick once it’s rolled out.
All you need to do then is cook them. Warm a frying pan on medium heat, then cook them first on one side, turn them over and cook the other. To get the flatbreads on the table in super quick time, cook one flatbread whilst you’re rolling out the second, then as one is cooked the next one can go in to cook to spotty, golden perfection.
Greek Yogurt Flatbread – Variations to Enjoy
This Greek yogurt flatbread recipe is like an artist’s blank canvas there is definitely scope for experimentation using a few additional ingredients. Here are some delicious variations you can try:
Herbed Greek Yogurt Flatbread
Enhance the taste of your flatbread by incorporating fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, or basil into the dough. Simply chop the herbs finely and mix them with the flour before adding the yogurt. Dried herbs may also be used.
Garlic and Parmesan Greek Yogurt Flatbread
For a more savoury version which goes really well with Italian-style cuisine, add finely chopped, pureed garlic and grated Parmesan cheese to the dough. This gives a real burst of deep savouriness which goes wonderfully with pasta recipes, soups and stews.
Sweet Cinnamon Greek Yogurt Flatbread
I can’t remember how I came to try this version but it’s really lovely. If you’re yearning for something sweet by sprinkling cinnamon and a touch of sugar on the flatbread dough before cooking. Enjoy this gorgeous treat as a dessert or a snack.
This fast flatbread recipe will give you flatbreads that are pretty wonderful to eat just as they are. However, if you’d like to ring the changes a little then try adding a few seeds. Sprinkle with a few poppy seeds or cumin seeds before you roll them out. Nigella seeds are also really lovely.
I’ve also tried adding a teaspoon of dried herbs, such as rosemary, oregano or thyme. Adds just the right amount of flavour.
Vary any herbs or spices to suit the meal you’re serving them with if you use them.
What to serve your flatbreads with
These go really well alongside soups and curries, for example, this super-speedy dal curry, plus they make a lovely accompaniment to salads.
The plain flatbreads are great with dips such as this Avocado hummus and go well with Mexican-style dishes like refried beans.
In fact use them anywhere, where you might have used bread such as pittas or tortillas. So, if you forgot to buy those bread when you were out shopping it doesn’t matter. Use this recipe and have a perfect solution in no time at all.
Storing your Yogurt Flatbreads
These flatbreads are best eaten fresh on the day they’re made. This is when they’re at their absolute best. I have, however, cheated a little by warming them the following day in the microwave for a few seconds and they’ve been a little heavier but ok.
These flatbreads freeze successfully (as bread not as dough) for up to 2 months.

Greek yogurt Flatbread Recipe
Equipment
- mixing bowl, fork to mix with, frying pan, spatula
- 1 Rolling Pin
Ingredients
- 2 cups self raising flour Use the same amount of all-purpose flour with 2 teaspoons of baking powder.
- 1 1/4 cup greek yogurt plain or natural type
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil for rolling out
Instructions
- Measure the flour, salt and yogurt into a mixing bowl and stir together using a fork.2 cups self raising flour, 1 1/4 cup greek yogurt, 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Then, using your hands start mixing it around to gather up all of the flour. This may take a moment or two.
- Once everything has come together to form a dough, divide into 4 pieces. Form each piece into a small ball. (If you can't incorporate all of the flour add a further teaspoon of yogurt and try again.)
- Place a frying pan on a low heat (increase this to a medium heat once you're ready to cook the dough) whilst you roll the dough into circular shapes.
- Add the oil to the worktop (if using) and either use your hands to push the dough into a circle or a rolling pin. Roll the dough to between 2mm to 3mm thick. If you want to use the bread as a wrap, roll them a little thinner.1 tablespoon olive oil
- As you roll out each one, pop it into the frying pan and give it a moment or two for one side to cook and then flip it over for the other side to cook. It may puff up a little as it cooks. It is done when you have golden brown spots on each side.
- Roll out your next piece of dough so that it can be aded straight to the pan whilst the previous one is cooking. Makes it a nice and speedy process.
- Continue in this way until you've cooked all of the dough and turned them into flatbreads.
- Wrap in a clean tea towel to keep them warm until you are ready to eat them.

I love making flatbread at home! I’ve never made it with yogurt, I can maybe use soy yogurt to make it vegan.. I will give it ago!
Julia
I’ve made these with Soy Yogurt and with a Soy Greek-style yoghurt. They both work really well but the greek style one gives a lighter, fluffier flatbread. Try them and see, they’re really easy.
