This is a collection of simple homemade recipes for festive baking. They’re from our Simpler Kitchen blog and will help you with your festive food dilemmas. However many people you are catering for, it’ll give you a few food related ideas. These recipes are all tested, tried and loved-by-us.
Mincepies and Christmas Cake
First up are mincepies. They seem to one of those ‘love ’em or hate ’em kind of foods but for me Christmas wouldn’t be christmas without them. Any festive baking needs to include them.
But before you get to mincepies, you need mincemeat – a good mincemeat. Why not have a go at making your own, however time pressured you are this doesn’t take long. It’s more of a measuring exercise, than a cooking exercise really. Plus, if you make it yourself you know what’s in it, you can vary the fruits, add nuts and alcohol if you wish. Make this easy recipe your very own.
Whether you use mincemeat to stuff baked apples or in cakes or traybakes, at christmas time the place it normally crops up is in mincepies. Another quintessential christmas food.
Hand them out to visitors, snack on them with your favourite warm drink or dress them up a little with custard or cream as a dessert. Make yourself a batch and try them out for yourself.
Mincepies need pastry and this is slightly different sweet pastry to the one detailed in the mincepie recipe. Both do the job equally well so it’s a matter of choice. This pastry is also amazing if you’re making fruit pies or turnovers.
Every celebration needs a worthy cake and if you’ve left things a little late this last minute Christmas cake recipe won’t let you down. It’s moist, fruity and delicious. Plus, it’s quite straighforward to make.
A Christmas feast needs Cranberry sauce and as always homemade is best. You can add different flavours to your homemade fruity sauce, it’s quick and simple and will really highlight all those festive dishes. Eat with nut roasts on the day.
Festive Baking – snacks
However long your Christmas and New Year celebrations go on for, at some point you’ll need/want puddings and snacks. These chocolate orange brownies will really wow you and those that you’re offering them too. They need a little ordinary dark chocolate, cocoa and an orange. Simple, quick and delicious.
These bliss balls are perfect for when you want someting a lttle sweet and chocolatey but not unhealthy or heavy. These bliss balls use cocoa, dates and hazelnuts. They’ve impressive to look at and will please any vegan family members, guests or friends.
How about this for a simple yet impressive dessert? Chocolate and Avocado mousse, it’s smooth and deliciously decadent to the taste.
Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are popular over the festive season too. Fudgy, sweet and with a lovely chocolate hit. Did I mention that they are ridiculously easy to make and take only 10 minutes to bake to perfection. Yum!
This fruit and nut trail mix is really good. Settle down to watch a good film or binge on netflix for a while and have this maple roasted trail mix beside you to snack on. Definitely worth checking out.
