Avocado chocolate mousse with raspberries

I’m really excited to share this recipe for Chocolate Avocado Mousse with you. This is creamy, smotth rich and flavoursome dessert. Divine!

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

It is simple to make and the result is absolutely worth the effort. Dress it up in pretty little bowls or little espresso cups. Decorate with berries; raspberries, blueberries, strawberries perhaps. Occasionally, I add a little whipped coconut cream on the top and grated chocolate but it isn’t necessary. It’s awesome on its own.

So, grab some ripe avocados and let’s get started.

Avocado and chocolate mousse in a jar

Features of this recipe

  • contains just six ingredients
  • Quick to make.
  • use a blender or stick blender to quickly turn the avocados into a silky smooth base for the other ingredients.
  • It is possible to make this by mashing it up with a fork like you would if you were making guacamole. But you will need to make sure that you buy perfectly ripe avocados to get that perfectly smooth texture. The odd avocado chunk in the mousse will definitely spoil it.

Is Chocolate Avocado Mousse healthy?

Avocados are good for our health, full of healthy fats and health supporting minerals and vitamins. In this dessert it teams up with cacao which is also full of antioxidants. So, I’m thinking that if I need an excuse for eating this then I could argue that it’s a health supporting, superstar dessert.

Recipe Ingredients

  • avocados – try to find ones that are perfectly ripe
  • cacao – for the gorgeous chocolate flavour. Substitute cocoa if you don’t have this. (Don’t be tempted to use drinking chocolate as this really won’t give you a good flavour.
  • maple syrup – this sweetens everything and makes this dessert refined sugar-free.
  • Vanilla extract and salt – these are both present as flavour enhancers. Don’t be tempted to leave them out.

What substitutions can I made in the recipe?

If you do not have or cannot get cocao then it is perfectly ok to substitute cocoa for it at the same weight. I wouldn’t use drinking chocolate as this usually already has added sugar and sometimes milk powder and this would result in a much weaker chocolate flavour.

You may replace the maple syrup with agave syrup at the same amount and honey would also work but not if you wish to keep this suitable for plant-based eaters. Honey also tends to have a stronger flavour and may overwhelm the balance of flavours a little.

Use the milk of your choice. The favourite plant based milk in our house is oat milk so this tends to be the one I use the most. I do sometimes use almond milk and the difference is undetectable in my opinion.

Is Chocolate Avocado Mousse Vegan?

This pudding is vegan provided that you use a vegan friendly milk; almond, oat, cashew and hazelnut all work really well. Also, ensure that the cocoa or cocao that you add do not have any additives which would make it unsuitable. It should be clear on the labels.

Is this dessert dairy-free?

Chocolate Avocado Mousse is dairy-free provided that use a non-dairy milk. Also, make sure that the cocoa, cocao that you use do not have any additives that would make thrm unsuitable. Do not substitue any instant chocolate type drink powders are these often contain milk. Check your labels and be confident that the mousse is dairy-free.

How to serve Chocolate and Avocado Mousse

Once it is smooth, scoop into pretty little dishes to serve. I sometimes add a little coconut cream on the top with some berries and grated chocolate.

This dessert makes four servings as it is quite rich and makes a nice end to a satisfying dinner however, I wouldn’t call you greedy if you turned it into two larger servings. It happens in our house too!
