What you need to know about no cook Pizza Sauce Recipe

No cook pizza sauce, as the name suggests, is a sauce that doesn’t require any cooking. It’s a quick and convenient option for those times when you want to whip up a pizza without spending hours simmering a sauce on the hob.

You’ll be amazed at the difference a good pizza sauce can make to your homemade pizza creations.

This pizza sauce is garlicky, tomatoey, not too acidic and just a little bit herby… just right in fact. Plus you can tweak the flavours of this tomato pizza sauce to get it just right for your tastes.

Making this sauce is so simple. With everyday ingredients you probably already have on hand, you’ll be able to whip up a batch in no time.

Ingredients

To make your delicious homemade pizza sauce you will need to gather together the following ingredients.

Ingredients used in no-cook pizza sauce

tomatoes – use tinned chopped or whole Italian tomatoes as the main ingredient for this sauce. I think that whole plum tomatoes in natural tomato juice give the very best results.

garlic cloves: I prefer to use fresh garlic which adds an authentic savouriness to the completed sauce. What would a pizza be without this?

oregano – a much-loved Mediterranean herb- is perfect for this sauce. (Don’t like oregano? Think about using thyme or basil instead.)

olive oil – lends authenticity and great flavour, plus it helps the sauce spread evenly across the pizza base.

tomato puree – this is not tomato sauce this is a puree made from tomatoes. It tends to come in tubes but may come in jars and is used to enrich tomato-based sauces. In this recipe it is used to boost the tomato flavour just a little, giving this sauce incredible richness and depth of flavour.

seasoning – add a little salt and pepper to really bring out all the flavour in this easy pizza sauce.

How to make this homemade no cook Pizza sauce from scratch

It’s unbelievable how easy this is. All you need to do is place all the ingredients into a blender or a suitable bowl or jug that you can use with an immersion/stick blender.

Simply puree it until it is smooth. The pureeing part should take around 30 seconds if that.

What I usually do at this point, is taste it and adjust the seasoning if necessary; add a few more herbs if I feel it needs it. Does it need a little sugar or honey to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes? I know the sauce is cold and it won’t be lovely but you will get an excellent idea if you need to change anything.

As a bonus, this no-cook pizza sauce doesn’t need to be cooked before you use it. This is what makes it so useful. It’s so quick. The cooking part comes when you cook the pizza. Get ready for a real treat.

Using your Quick Homemade Tomato Pizza Sauce

When you’re ready to build your pizza, measure this easy homemade pizza sauce into a small bowl. I generally use about 75 grams (approximately 1/3 cup) for a 12-inch pizza base.

Then use the back of a spoon (you won’t tear the soft dough base this way) to spread the sauce across the pizza base, leaving about a 2cm border, sauce-free.

That’s it, that’s all you need to do, choose your favourite pizza toppings and add those across the top of your pizza and bake.

There will be sauce left over from making your pizza so why not do as I do and use this sauce as the basis of other dishes such as stews, soups, bruschetta or pasta sauces? It’s a really useful sauce to have at your fingertips.

Tips for Making the Perfect Pizza Using this no cook pizza sauce

Now that you have your homemade pizza sauce, let’s dive into some tips to ensure your pizza turns out phenomenal:

1. Preheat your oven:

Before placing your pizza in the oven, it’s crucial to preheat it to the right temperature. This ensures that your pizza cooks evenly and develops a crispy crust.

2. Use high-quality ingredients:

I always believe that you should use the best quality, freshest ingredients you can afford when you’re cooking as this is how you’ll get the tastiest results. This is no different when it comes to pizza making -fresh and high-quality ingredients can make a noticeable difference to the taste of your pizza. So, choose fresh vegetables, and your favourite cheeses and enjoy the best flavours.

3. Making the perfect Pizza Sauce

  1. Use the best-tinned tomatoes you can find. I prefer to use tinned plum/Italian tomatoes canned in natural juice or tinned cherry tomatoes in natural juice. I think that these give the best flavour.
  2. Make sure to taste the sauce before adding it to the pizza base as this is the best time to make any slight adjustments to the flavour. Perhaps it needs a bit more seasoning? Perhaps a few more herbs would make it perfect?
  3. Maybe the tomatoes seem too acidic? To balance the flavours you may choose to add a pinch of sugar to counteract any excessive tartness. You’ll be amazed at the difference this can make.
  4. Don’t add too much sauce to the pizza base, 80mls is plenty of sauce on a 12-inch base, to give that gorgeous tomatoey background to your favourite pizza topping. Much more than this and you risk creating a soggy pizza.
  5. If you’re pureeing the tomatoes using a fork then carefully mince or puree the garlic clove so that you don’t have lumpy pieces of garlic on the base which might spoil your enjoyment.

4. Use a good Pizza crust

The crust is the foundation of any great pizza. If you are using a shop-bough pizza base then try different ones (over different pizza-making sessions) to make sure you have the one you like the most.

If you have the time to make your own pizza base then be brave enough to experiment with different dough recipes and find the one that suits your preferences. Whether you prefer a thin and crispy crust or a thick and chewy one, mastering the art of pizza dough will take your homemade pizzas to new heights.

It isn’t that difficult and with a little practice, you’ll wonder why you haven’t tried making your own pizza bases before. Take a look at the recipe for this pizza dough recipe of ours.
