It’s like sunshine in a glass with a strong flavour of the mango and the creaminess of the yoghurt. The optional addition of ground cardamon is another reminder that the recipe comes from India.

I’ve wanted to share this recipe for a while, homemade lassi is pretty wonderful. A cooling, yoghurt based drink, perfect for summer entertaining or any time that you can find mangoes. Fortunately these days, you can get mangoes, fresh, frozen and tinned fairly easily, so we can enjoy it at pretty much anytime. It’s good to know that fruit-based lassis, like this one, are an easy way to add a little extra fruit to your daily diet too.

Features of easy vegan mango Lassi Recipe

  • refined sugar-free.
  • dairy-free – if you use a non-dairy yoghurt, which makes it suitable for vegan, dairy-free and plant-based diets.
  • uses fresh, ripe mangoes. Tinned or frozen could be used instead.
  • cardamon – a lovely spice to bring out the fresh flavours of the fruit. Not everyone likes it however so leave it out if you need to.
  • lemon or lime juice – this just brightens the flavour a little. It’s completely optional.

Tips for Success

  • use a plain or coconut yoghurt that you like. There are many varieties that are suitable for vegan, plant-based and dairy-free diets. (Just check your labels.) Greek yoghurts types will give you the thickest lassi and the creamiest flavour.
  • if you’re using fresh fruit, make sure, as best as you can that the mango is ripe. Ripe fruit will give you the best flavour.
  • if your lassi is too thick, then thin with a little more almond or oat milk.
  • pour over ice cubes for a really refreshing summer drink.
  • if the mango you have used is a little fibrous then remove these fibres by pouring the drink through a sieve into your waiting glass.
  • not very sweet? If your lassi seems quite sharp, add a little maple syrup to sweeten it a little. Fresh fruit does tend to vary in sweetness.

Serving your homemade mango lassi

Your delicious homemade Mango lassi is always best served fresh in a pretty glass.

Serve it poured over 2 or 3 ice cubes and decorate with lemon or lime slices and perhaps a pretty mint sprig.

Sprinkle a little cardamon or ginger on the top and then find a nice place to sit for a while and enjoy .
